If you had to be trapped in a TV show for a month, which show would you choose?
This one is really hard for me to answer... I'd love to be in NCIS to flirt and mess with DiNozzo and hang out with Abby, but I think Ziva would be incredibly intimidating. Being in Buffy would be awesome, but chances are I'd end up dead. Any of the Stargates would be fun, but again, the chances of being killed / stuck in a faraway galaxy are way too high for me to spend an entire month there. Ditto with Battlestar.Charmed could be kind of cool, but only if I was a witch too.
I suspect the only show I could happily reside on for an entire month would be Veronica Mars. I'd help Veronica find out what the deal was with that weird college fraternity and how they're involved with the Kane family, and take advantage of all her PI access to stalk ex-boyfriends. It'd be sweet.
If you had to teach something, what would you teach?
English or History. By the end of next year I should be qualified to teach both, so it'll depend on where I get a job :)
Which countries have you visited? Which countries are on your list to visit?
USA.
I spent the Aussie winters over in New Jersey working at a summer camp. Those summers are right up there with the absolute best times of my life.
EUROPE
In 2002 my friend was living in the UK, so before camp another friend and I went and visited her, and then bummed off over to explore France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. In 2004 I spent a couple of months in Europe with my boy and a couple of our (male) friends. This trip (besides including way too much soccer for my liking... Liverpool, Man U, Barcelona as well as the Euro Cup Finals) included the UK, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, Germany and the Netherlands. Highlights of this trip included spending a week sharing a tiny room that barely fit 2 single beds in it with 4 boys, spending a week in Amsterdam with bronchitis and a night in France where I was so drunk I was insisting that I had to fly home straight away. I don't think I've ever been that drunk since. (Note my sarcasm with the last few sentences.... as with everything, the really really bad bits really stick with you. And trust me - sharing a room with 4 boys is bad. Especially when those boys have been drinking, were all smokers and snorers. It was tough.)
2006 had a trip to Germany for the World Cup. This was the boy's part of the trip, as before this we spent 10 days in
EGYPT
I need to go back when it isn't the middle of their summer. 50C days kind of take the fun out of spending hours wandering around temples and examining the carvings and paintings.
ASIA
In most of our Europe trips we've included 3 or 4 days in Singapore.
2007 we spent 2 weeks in Thailand for our honeymoon.
There are so many places I want to go back to, and even more that I want to see! I'd love to get to New Zealand and South Africa (or any of Africa really). I would like to see more of Asia - I particularly would like to go to China. I'd like to see more of Greece, Egypt again, more of the US, I want to see Canada.... there's probably very few places I don't want to see.
Is there anything you've done that you wish you'd apologized for, but didn't?
There are a few, but there's one that I still feel bad about years later. There was this guy in high school I had a massive crush on. We're talking mammoth proportions here, and this crush lasted years. He was one of those older guys that everyone lusts after, and I always managed to make a complete fool of myself in front of him.... although I don't think he even really knew who I was. Anyway, a few years out of school he contacts me out of the blue, we hang out a few times, become ok friends. Fast forward another year or so, I'm newly single and back from a 4 month trip overseas, we hang out, and one night we kiss.
Have you ever seen that episode of Buffy where Cordelia and Wesley kiss after lusting after each other for months? And it's just awkward and there's no spark and it's not that it was necessarily bad, but just not a good fit? This was like that. So anyway, I go home, and think 'this just is not going to go anywhere.' I start trying to distance myself a little. He pursues, I distance further, pursue, distance.... around and around until it gets to the point where he's pursuing and I'm completely freaking out, and I turn into the mega bitch from hell. I was really horrible to this poor guy, looking back I completely overreacted to what happened, and didn't deal with his attention in the way I should have.
Anyway, I wish I could apologise to the guy for being such a psycho bitch. I could have let him down in a nice way (after all... I'd all but stalked him for years in high school, I should have been more understanding). Immaturity and lack of life experience is all I can blame it on, and I really do feel bad about how horrible I was to him. I tried to make up for it a couple of years on by throwing some contracting work his way via a mutual friend, but it isn't really the same as apologising.
Who or what do you really love?
Obviously, my husband... but right this second...... this video
What's the best gift you received this year?
My two favourite gifts this year came from my in-laws: a popcorn maker and a chocolate maker.
Popcorn is my study snack. I love Kernels popcorn, but it's a pain in the ass driving up to the shops get it all the time. As soon as I discovered you could buy the flavours online (I highly recommend the Macho Nacho, Wild Buffalo Wings and Italian (which appears to have disappeared from the site...)) a popcorn maker went straight to the top of my christmas list.
The chocolate maker was a surprise, but I heart chocolate, and it'll be kinda cool making it! The lovely lady even bought me all the ingredients I need to get started (because everyone knows that when you get something like this, unless you're given the ingredients too, you never actually use the thing!).
I got lots of other lovely gifts too (including a new stereo for my car, because mine has had a cd jammed in it for 6 months, and the radio carked it about 3 weeks ago. The stereo has never worked properly - from the day I got that car the cd player refused to play the first 3 tracks on each cd, and would randomly mute, or increase the volume of the radio. methinks my car was haunted.) but the popcorn and chocolate makers were the best (in theory anyway - lets see if they still are after I've used them... or not used them!!)
Tell us about your holiday traditions.
Submitted by Talk is Cheap.
Our family isn't really all that big on traditions, but there is one that we've managed to carry on for the last 8 or so years.... the ridiculous Santa photo. Sitting on a strange man's lap, while he not so subtly tries to touch your ass is not fun (we've been unfortunate to come across some extremely sleezy Santas over the years).
We're all at the point where we're really too old to still be having our photo taken with Santa, but our mum always did the guilt thing. To avoid our embarrassment, we started doing stupid things in the photo.
It started off with just a cheesy grin and a 'thumbs up'. It slowly progressed, and the last two years have involved afro wigs and viking helmets, hippy hair and a crown.
We're still stuck on what to do this year.... and we're running out of time!
