Yes, I know we're 8 days into the New Year, but I finally thought of a worthwhile resolution.
I'm going to review and update my 101 in 1001 list.
I know it kind of defeats the purpose changing it, and I'm even going to substitute some things for things I've already done that achieved the same thing (eg team sport every year - dance class every year. I discovered I actually loathe team sports, but really enjoy dance classes. I tried it once, I don't see the point in continuing on something I hate.) Additionally, I appear to be *gasp* growing up and things that a year ago I wasn't interested in giving a go I now do... like crafty stuff.
I also want to wipe out a lot of the 'do such and such once a month' items - they're just too hard to track. So, over the next week or so there's going to be some changes. And I am going to get better at actually achieving some of them this year.
Looking back, last year was a year of changes for me. I did a lot of things that I had always wanted to do like play soccer and formally learn more about web design, I discovered a new love in pole dancing, and I made more of an effort with some acquaintances who have now become very good friends. Yes 2008 had some shitty bits, as all years do, but overall it really was a year of positive growth for me (wow, how puke inducing!) Maybe it's just I'm getting closer to 30... a lot of people say that your 30s are much better than your 20s, and if that's the case, I'm inching closer and closer :) I didn't have any panic attacks or bouts of depression that I wasn't able to recognise for what they were and fight off, but at the same time, I feel a bit guilty for having such a good year. My boy had an absolute shit of a year last year, and I really hope this year is better for him. Then again, 2007, although it had some highlights, was an absolutely horrible year for me but the boy coasted through happily... let's just hope that the universe isn't playing some sick joke on us and we don't get stuck in a good year / bad year cycle that never syncs.
Whatever.... my habit of putting off uni work hasn't changed. Another 500 words to go tonight. *sigh* What I really want to do is catch up on all the neighbourhood blogs that I haven't had a chance to read yet.
There are some things on my list that aren't really relevant, some things I know just won't happen, and other things I would rather add in their places!
Once uni settles down, before the summer session starts, I WILL rework the list. And include new things I've found like this. I think it'd be great fun making a 60 second condensed, animated version of a Shakespeare play!
Still struggling through the 4 essays I need to get done. So over it.
I'm finding the level 2 pole dancing class really difficult, mainly due to my pathetic flexibility and lack of upper body strength.
Because I'm on a bit of a health kick anyway, I've signed up for Push Up Australia. I've been wanting to improve the number of push ups I can do, and the site has a great little tracking device.... gimmicky charts and stats always suck me in.
AND... for each push up you do, there's the option of donating 1c to charity. SO I'll be fulfilling one of my 101 things in 1001 days (donating to charity) AND hopefully making pole dancing that little bit easier.

Have finally gotten around to striking out the things I have done. Will sort out links to blogs etc this weekend.
I've already crossed more than expected off my list...
2. Spirit guide portrait & reading
I got this done a week ago at the Sydney MBS festival. The festival as a whole was a bit of a letdown, people trying to sell you stuff at every turn (and being very pushy in the meantime) but I was really happy with my reading.
Turns out my guide is a very good looking Native American, he said that I try a lot of things and do them well, but stop before I get anywhere with them, and that I need to take that next step, and just commit to something. So whether you believe in that stuff or not, it’s good advice!
4. Read 20 non-uni books (1/20)
I’ve read one so far (not bad considering it’s month one out of 33!), The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov. I never used to be a science fiction fan at all, but want to expand on what I read. This was a short, easy read (although the boy hates this author and asked “Why the hell are you reading Isaac??”) and I really enjoyed it! It has become a little dated, but the idea that people live outside time in ‘eternity’ and are going into time to change the world by small things such as moving a book to make someone run late is fascinating.
8. Play in a sports team each year (1/3)
Ok, so I kind of cheated on this one, because I signed up for soccer just before my official 101 start date, but it’s there to keep me playing some sort of team sport for the next 2 years. I’m mostly enjoying playing so far… although I hate playing against the teams full of 19 and 20 year olds! They are so much fitter, I just can’t keep up! Although, I did a combat class at the gym today, and found it much easier than I did before I started playing soccer.
15. Get and learn to use contacts
This is half done… I’ve got contacts, and the time it takes me to put them in and take them out is down to 10 minutes. I just keep blinking!!
16. Start taking a multivitamin and probiotic
Last Thursday picked up a standard chicks multi and some probiotics… I remember to take them every 2nd day, so I need to improve, but it’s better than never.
71. Set up a ‘study’ area / desk
This one will have to be redone when we move (although that could be 6 – 12 months away still), but I finally got myself a desk that is big enough for all my uni books (I’m one of those people that has 10 books spread all around me when I’m essay writing) and mess. And….
72. Get a new monitor
This was actually the thing that motivated me to get the desk set up… I couldn’t use my shiny new monitor sitting on the floor…
96. Set up direct debits to pay regular bills
This is a dull one, but a necessary one. Because we’re looking to buy a house (and get a horrible mortgage to go with it) I need to make sure I pay all my bills on time… something I’m hopeless with doing. I just forget to do it – I get them, put them aside to pay later, then completely forget about them.
99. Make spreadsheet to track tasks
I use excel all day every day, so this one was easy to do.
