You are nearly a week late, but our very good friend Ms HPT has told me three times now that you will be coming to visit me for our regular catch up.

I get agitated and stressed when I'm in limbo, please come visit and put me out of my misery. Having to go back to work is stressful enough without having to check for your arrival every hour.

* Aunty Flo is such a strange way of referencing, but it works for me in this case.

New pole dancing photo! This is the inverted V, harder than it looks ;) this is an about-to-already-kind-of-coming-out of it shot, my friend and I really need to figure out how to take decent photos and work on timing. Happy New Year everyone!

crochet time!

After a few really bad attempts, the crochet thing is finally working for me.

The lil heart was made with the wrong type of yarn, with the wrong sized needle, and I kept losing count. So I'm happy that it isn't completely crap.

I'm very happy with my little Alien dude. Yarn where you can't see the stitches (or mistakes) FTW!

Both are done from RoxyCraft patterns.

Currently working on a Lochness monster, hopefully he'll be finished before Xmas!

Things on Tuesday

(I've never done one of these before!

Loving:
Getting a HD on a literature exam when I didn't read the novels properly
Getting the acceptance letter for the grad course
Being able to read ebooks at work

Loathing:
The lazy, rude, overpaid people at work who spend all day at the pub
Having to have dinner with my biological father tonight. The thought of seeing him brings on panic attacks... at least I've managed to avoid him all year
Buses that are crowded/ late/ don't show up

Thank god there is only one day left of work.

Look mum, no hands!

Ok, finally a pole photo. This is kind of a left leg hang. Yes, i am only holding on with my left leg, right hip and shoulder. Excuse time: my right leg is up way too high and my left leg is a bit straight as my friend was struggling to take the photo, and took it just as I was twisting out of it back into a crucifix to dismount.

I've done the poxy filters because I don't want a big, unflattering shot online, it looks much nicer all little quarter sized.

I need to set up a screen at home so I can take some shots over the Xmas break.

Next year

After a week of feeling shitty and ready to quit my job, I had some news today that has completely turned things around.

I got a call from the uni I've applied to do post grad with.

Uni lady: Ok, I'm calling because you're going to be receiving a letter from UAC saying that your application was rejected.
Me: Oh, uh, ok
Uni lady: But you'll need to just tear that up. You've been accepted and the paperwork will come through next week.

So, I'm not sure why I was initially rejected (possibly the terrible personal statement I wrote while I was supposed to be writing my final modern history essay, possibly because the marks for said modern history subject are not going to be released until mid-January) but I don't care. I'm in!

The chick was all 'now, you aren't supposed to know you're accepted until next week some time, but I wanted to get a hold of you before you recieved the rejection letter' so I'm not sure if that means I'm not supposed to tell anyone yet, so of course, lovely blog, you're my BFF right now.

Next comes the fun part - I need to convince my boss that he wants to let me have Friday mornings off during semester to go to lectures. In the first year I can do 4 subjects externally, but 2 of them have to be done on campus. And, if they don't give me Friday mornings off, then it's time for a new job.

Pole and stitching and crochet, oh my!

Since finishing up with uni, I've been avoiding the computer, and that combined with being busy at work means that I haven't blogged at all for weeks.

What I have been doing is stitching, learning to crochet, reading, and irritating my husband and housemate who had gotten used to me being too busy studying to bother them.

So, show and tell time.*

First up, a few cross stitches that were done in my last few weeks of studying. They're all pretty basic and quick, great study break activities. It'll become clear pretty quickly where I get my inspiration from / what my favourite tv shows are.

Then there's the stitching. These are both going to be the front of cushions I'm making my sisters for xmas. One of them needs a slight adjustment (can't believe I messed up the quote!! Argh!) but they should be finished over the weekend.

I also spent some time learning how to crochet (because I tried to learn to knit and it pissed me off.) Learning is irritating, I get frustrated really easily, but I'm working on this Roxycraft Flamie pattern, and so far so good. Roxycraft has a massive sale on, all their patterns for $30, so if you've ever had any sort of interest in learning to crochet and make awesome little toys (hello baby shower gifts!!) grab them while they're cheap! In stores cute patterns like this are around $20 for a book of 5 or 6! I also (once I get good) want to try out this star throw.

Pole dancing is still chugging along, managed a right leg hang and a pike (without falling on my head this time) and a princess last week, and am moving up to the level 4 class in January. One of these days I may even post real photos of me doing these things :)

Maybe I should be hoping I DON'T get accepted into my grad course for first semester - I am enjoying being away from the computer and doing all this crafty stuff way too much!

*The photos are all really shitty, taken with a dodgy phone camera. May or may not re-take at some point. Once I make something good I'll make sure the photos are worthwhile.

Beginnings and endings

So many things are finishing, and so many new things beginning, I'm really feeling like I'm reaching 30 a year early (after all, isn't that when all the good stuff is supposed to start?)

I finished the swedish massage course last weekend. It was a ridiculously hot day in Sydney (apparently it peaked at about 45C) and the aircon in the classroom was struggling. Everyone was sweaty, tired, and over it. BUT we did it, I passed, and decided I probably won't go on to do the entire certificate. Doing the odd massage for friends and family is one thing, but after being paired up with a huge, hairy, stinky guy in class, I realised I really couldn't do it in a professional capacity. Plus, the entire certificate costs over $6k. I may as well just hide that money away in a high interest account.

Last night saw the end of my European History unit, which was also the last official unit in my degree. I started the degree in mid-2006 and have not had more than a week off since then. It's been hard working full time and studying full time, but it's over and I'm so much closer to my final goal, teaching. Feeling a bit lost - not sure how I'm going to cope with NOT having the stress!

I still have the exam for American Literature to go, but if I don't pass that unit, I'll just need to pick up another third year literature unit somewhere non-award. It falls outside the degree, so it doesn't matter TOO much if I don't pass it (well, that's what I keep telling myself. I haven't failed anything yet so I don't want to fail, but I also haven't read any of the three novels that the exam is on next Tuesday soooo....) Frustrating that the uni I want to do my DipEd at requires 3 level 3 literature subjects to be an English teacher, whereas the Education Department only require 2. *sigh*

Pole dancing started up again last night after a week off, and I was actually a bit bored in my level 3 class last night. I'm not a huge fan of my Wednesday night teacher, she doesn't push us at ALL, but it's a great class of girls and only a 4 week term, so it won't be too bad. Really looking forward to my Saturday class. It's still a level 3, but with the teacher I love who caters to all our individual skill levels and gives us extra stuff rather than having us bored and gossiping in a corner. I saw her last night and we're going to work on a right leg hang on Saturday (which is apparently much harder than a left leg hang... not sure why it would be much different, but I'm looking forward to finding out!) On the upside, I've pretty much nailed the inverted v now.

There's been a little bit of stitching, my latest from Subversive Cross Stitch is below. It took about 4 hours, and was done to keep myself from abusing the hell out of my housemate's girlfriend. She managed to lock my cat in his room for an entire day (without any food, water or litter. I wish he'd taken a dump in there) when she left our place on Tuesday morning. I hate her staying over and leaving after we're all at work and not locking the place up properly when she goes, but this had me absolutely livid. We don't shut the doors in the house during the day because of the cats - she KNOWS this, I've HEARD my housemate tell her this a couple of times, I've told her this a few times, but still, she did it, and my little boy was locked in a room for 9 hours. She's lucky it wasn't as hot as the weekend, or I really would have let her have it. So, the stitching kept me away from her and stopped me saying something I'd probably (not really) regret later.

Once American Lit is over I'm going to play with creating some of my own designs. Because I'm lame like that. And I'm going to need some projects now that I'm done studying!

Yet another

This will be the last crafty posting for a while... Exams have hit and I can't justify the procrastination when I have 3 novels to read for American lit and 3 essays to write on 20th century Europe.

Pic below not for those offended by the c word. I made the cushion for my high school bff (heh, I hate that... bff... I really am old!)
